How can we
help your patients?

Chronic pain can be increasingly complicated and difficult to treat. Without proper understanding of available options and timely, effective treatment, patients may feel hopeless and resigned to their pain. At the same time, many providers may not be aware of the full spectrum of treatment options available to their patients beyond therapy, medications, and surgery. At the Neuromodulation Insitute at NewportCare, we make it our mission to educate not only patients, but physicians in the community about all interventional pain treatment options. While we strive to utilize the power of neuromodulation, it is by no means a first-line therapy, and may not work for all patients.

How We Support Providers:

In-person and remote: Provider education meetings offer invaluable opportunities for healthcare professionals to stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in pain medicine. These sessions provide a platform for interactive learning and peer-to-peer collaboration to help us understand how to best care for your patients, and to discuss what options may be available, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes.

Patient education seminars: Do you feel your patients may be great candidates but have issues explaining the treatment and process? Let us educate these potential patients through our educational seminar series to empower individuals suffering from chronic pain and help them make informed decisions regarding their treatment options. These seminars offer patients the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of neuromodulation therapies, benefits and outcomes, while allowing for a platform to ask questions prior to any in-person visits. They can sign up for our webinars on our website by clicking here (link to same place that the "stay informed" button sends people.

Institute collaterals: We are happy to provide in-office educational information and references for patients who may be interested in doing research into neuromodulation. With links to online videos and patient testimonials, these collaterals can help enhance understanding of their conditions, treatment options, and how we may be able to help.

Regular updates: With our patient care coordinator, we aim to not only keep patients up to date with their care and progress, but their referring providers as well. By keeping everyone connected, we hope to ease the transition of care and reduce breakdown in communication.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have heard Stimulation is not effective. How can this help my patients?

There are many studies that have sought to disprove the efficacy of neuromodulation. Unfortunately, these studies are plagued by major methodological flaws including ignoring best practices and manufacturing guidelines, utilizing inappropriate endpoints, and making conclusions based on data analyses that fail to use uniformed methods. A recent Cochran review demonstrated these shortfalls and its validity has largely been called into question (read the critique here). Another study published in JAMA demonstrated similar shortfalls (see the analysis of this article here). While stimulation is not ideal for all patients with chronic pain, it can be an effective, life-changing therapy for those who are appropriate candidates. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to learn it if it may be the right option for them.

Is this treatment covered?

It is an FDA-approved treatment covered by most major insurance carriers, including PPOs, HMOs, and Medicare. Though challenging, worker's compensation may cover the treatment as well. We utilize patient authorization portals to facilitate authorizations, and offer a variety of payment plans if patients choose to forego insurance coverage.
