Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) Treatment

An Advanced Treatment for Targeted Relief.

READY TO START YOUR JOURNEY WITH DORSAL ROUTE GANGLION?

How it Works

Small wires are placed inside the spine along the affected nerves and electrical impulses disrupt the pain fibers that correspond with the affected limb or joint. The wires are attached to a battery which can be programmed to each patient's individual needs. Click here for more detailed information about DRG stimulation.

Who does it work for?

DRG stimulation is ideal for patients with specific areas of the lower extremity that have chronic pain. This includes:

• Knee pain (EG. pain despite having surgery, or worse after surgery)

• Chronic ankle pain (pain despite having surgery, or worse after surgery, pain after fracture has healed)

• Chronic foot pain (pain despite having surgery, or worse after surgery, pain after fracture has healed)

• Complex Regional Pain Syndrome I and II (CRPS)

• Pain diabetic neuropathy of the foot and ankle

• Abdominal pain

• Pelvic pain

The Evidence

DRG efficacy was proven in the ACCURATE study, a randomized controlled trial in over 150 patients with CRPS that demonstrated significant improvement in pain control, quality of life, and psychological disposition. Click here to read more about the ACCURATE trial.

REAL WORLD PATIENT SUCCESS STORIES

Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG)
Patient Spotlight

AM is a 50-year-old woman who developed complex regional pain syndrome after she broke her ankle. After traying therapy, medications and additional surgery, her pain progressed to where she could not tolerate wearing socks on her foot or weight-bear due to the severe pain. She elected to move forward with DRG trial and received over 90% relief in her foot and ankle pain, experienced decreased swelling, and could tolerate walking again. After receiving the implantation, AM continues to regain her activity and take back control of her life from chronic pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Is DRG Different Then Other Forms Of Neuromodulation?

DRG is a specialized form of neuromodulation where the leads are on nerves in the spine corresponding with specific painful areas in the lower extremity (eg. ankle, knee). Compared to spinal cord stimulation, this can be a more effective treatment if pain is specific to one area. Compared to peripheral nerve stimulation, DRG treats the nerves in the spine to cover specific areas, as opposed to covering specific injured nerves.

Is The DRG Trial Painful?

All neuromodulation procedures can be temporarily uncomfortable. To best assist patients with this pain, they are often given significant amount of numbing medication on the skin and where the procedure is being done, but are also given intravenous medication to keep them comfortable. Patient may also get a short course of oral medication after the procedure to assist with post-procedural discomfort.

Is DRG Covered By Insurance?

Yes, DRG is an FDA approved treatment for nerve pain in the locations.

How Does The Battery Work?

The stimulator can be used 24/7 and does not require charging. Typical battery life depends on amount of stimulation used, but can vary from 5 years - 10 years before it requires replacement.
